Vale Ian Campbell Thornton
It is with much sadness to share that Ian Thornton, a legend in NSW Steam Preservation and a prominent railwayman across Australia, passed away on Friday 24th April 2009, after a long battle with ill health.

To those involved in preservation across NSW would have met Ian in some capacity or another, and all would perceive him as an example of a dedicated railwayman and an extraordinary mentor to many who learned from him.

Amongst driving for many mainline heritage operators in NSW, Ian was involved with Lachlan Valley Railway over many years, being on the rosters driving the society's trains ranging from our 59 Class right down to our CPHs railmotors. He did so voluntarily, yet with the same enthusiasm and spirit that inspires other railwaymen.

He will be sadly missed, and the membership at Lachlan Valley Railway extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Janice, and his family and friends across Australia.
